Пасха

Well, my Internet is really way to crappy to upload even a small video. I really should just find a nearby café and do it there. Unfortunately, I don't seem to live particularly close to anything. My street is long and busy, but featureless and without a lot of things to do. Still, there ought to be something within 15-30 minutes. I only have yet to explore enough.

This weekend is Easter, or Пасха (Paskha), weekend in Russia. It's rare that Orthodox Easter and Western Easter coincide, but it's kind of cool I'm in Russia the year it happens. Last night, Andrea, Katie, Rachel, Graham and I visited a Cathedral in the North-East of Moscow called Храм Воскресения Христова в Сокольниках (Hram Voskresenija Hristova v Sokołnikah). The name roughly translates to Cathedral of Christ's Resurrection in Sokolniki, which I take to mean the cathedral is in Sokolniki and not Christ's resurrection. Then again, who knows. I will mark the cathedral on my Google map. The church was beautiful, and smaller than what I would normally consider a cathedral. Last night, people were entering the church, praying at icons, and lighting candles. The smell of incense hung in the air and almost filled in the silence of the place. It's a shame I couldn't stay to see a service, but that would have been at 11 and I had buses to catch. Как жаль.

Tomorrow, Monday, it is back to the old grind. Although I guess for me it is still a pretty new grind. Nonetheless, this was a very resting and pleasant weekend.

  1. You know, I was born on Easter. Jesus was resurrected on Easter. Ergo...

  2. I'd like to think you're something better than Jesus
